Gary Shirley and Amber Portwood have been battling as co-parents in recent weeks on "Teen Mom OG" due to what Shirley has claimed to be negligent parenting on Portwood's part. However, after being targeted on Twitter by Portwood, who slammed Shirley for talking "sh*t" about her and making money off her with MTV, Shirley took the high road and his fans were impressed.

"Yes guys, I have a past. I’ve grown up," he explained in a tweet to his fans and followers on January 16. According to Gary Shirley, he isn't concerned where he was five years ago because he knows where he is now.

He also acknowledged his mistakes and said he's been forgiven for his not-so-stellar moments of the past. "I’m still learning," he added.

Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley had a troubled relationship years ago

Before he was happily married to wife Kristina Anderson, Gary Shirley was involved in an up-and-down relationship with Amber Portwood that was spotlighted for years on "16 & Pregnant" and "Teen Mom." Then, in 2012, after violating her probation following a physical attack on her former boyfriend, Portwood was sentenced to serve a five-year sentence. Luckily for Portwood, however, her sentence ended up lasting just 17 months. Prior to entering prison, Portwood signed over her custody rights to her nine-year-old daughter Leah to Shirley, who has had custody of the child ever since.

Amber Portwood claims Gary Shirley would be nothing without her

On Twitter on Monday (Jan. 15), prior to the new episode of "Teen Mom OG," Portwood, who is currently expecting her second child with boyfriend Andrew Glennon, took aim at Shirley and his wife, Anderson, claiming the couple wouldn't be living like they are now if it wasn't for her.

In fact, she said their constant bashing of her on the show has helped keep Shirley and Anderson out of the ghetto.

Following her rant against Gary Shirley, Amber Portwood took to her Instagram page to tell her fans and followers that she would be taking a break from social media in the coming weeks as she keeps her stress levels low for the sake of her baby boy.

To see more of Gary Shirley, Amber Portwood, and their co-stars, including Andrew Glennon, Farrah Abraham, Catelynn Lowell, Tyler Baltierra, Ryan Edwards, Maci Bookout, Mackenzie Standifer, Taylor McKinney, and Kristina Anderson, don't miss new episodes of the seventh season of "Teen Mom OG" on Monday nights at 9 PM on MTV.
