Photos of the giant set and the filming location of the eighth and final season of the “Game of Thrones” was recently leaked online. According to “GoT” fan site Watchers of the Wall, the location was in Toome, Ireland, and the set was for the Unsullied warriors’ scenes.
Eighth season film set exposed
When we last saw the Unsullied, they were raiding the empty Casterly Rock and fighting the weakest guards while the bulk of the Lannister army was ransacking the Highgarden – Tyrell’s territory. The Unsullied were also using dragonglass on their spears, meaning they are ready to face the horde of incoming White Walkers.
Another observation that the fan site made was the huge white tarpaulin that is covering the Winterfell ground set. The tarp may be there for CGI purposes – fake snow. This means that there might be a major scene that will happen on the Winterfell grounds. This seems very exciting because three Starks are currently in Winterfell. Maybe one of them will die next season?
HBO leak-proofing the final season?
Earlier this year, HBO suffered a devastating loss when hackers found their way to steal unaired shows and demanded a huge ransom. When the company did not give in to the hackers’ demands, they released the episodes through popular piracy sites.
Jaime Lannister, played by actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, said that in order to prevent possible leaks online, the showrunners have decided to impose radical changes.
One of these changes is not giving the cast hard copies of the script. According to Coster-Waldau, the script might be given to the cast on the spot. A report by blog Winter Is Coming provided this information.
Another change is to shoot multiple endings per episode. According to Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming, shooting multiple endings will slowdown hackers from stealing an episode because the showrunners will have a chance to change it.
If the show has no definitive ending, this will give the studio an advantage to proceed as planned without suffering a major loss from the leakage.
‘GoT’ Season 8 without one cast member
Not all of the remaining "GoT" cast will not be appearing for the final season of the show. One cast member, in particular, has expressed her disappointment when she did not get a call from the showrunners for the final season.
Meera Reed’s actress Ellie Kendrick said that while she is glad that she won’t be dragging Bran Stark – played by Isaac Hempstead – anymore, she’s still a bit sad that she won’t be returning to the show.
