Universal has released the first official trailer for “Pacific Rim: Uprising,” the sequel to “Pacific Rim,” originally released in 2013. The trailer was unveiled at New York Comic Con on Friday.
The new clip shows a new generation of Jaegar pilots rising up to save the world from Kaijus. As the teaser trailer released earlier this summer revealed, the army of Jaegars is led by Jake Pentecost, portrayed by John Boyega. The movie also stars Scott Eastwood, Rinko Kikuchi, Jing Tian, Charlie Day and newcomer Cailee Spaeny. Kikuchi and Day will reprise their roles as Mako and Dr.
Newton Geiszler, respectively.

Premise
Ten years after the Battle of the Breach, the kaiju threat returns to the world, prompting Pan Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC) to build a new generation of Jaegars, gigantic bots controlled by human pilots.
Former Jaegar pilot Jake Pentecost, whose father gave his life in the battle, has abandoned his training and has become embroiled in the criminal underworld. He is given one last chance by his adopted sister, Mako Mori, to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father.
Along with rival pilot Lambert, Jaegar hacker Amara and colleagues in the PPDC, Jake and his friends are determined to rise up and become the new generation of heroes who saves humanity from extinction.
New Director
The first “Pacific Rim” was directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Del Toro, however, stepped down as director for the much-anticipated sequel. In April, Collider quoted the director as saying that a nine-month delay caused by the acquisition of Legendary (production company) prompted him to step down the director’s chair, because he wanted to work on “Shape of Water.”
In February 2016, it was announced that Steven S.
DeKnight, whose credits include Marvel’s Netflix series “Daredevil” and Starz’s action series “Spartacus,” would step in as the new director, while Del Toro would remain as a producer.
“Pacific Rim: Uprising” will hit theaters on March 23, 2018.
