Filmmaker and actor george clooney will be the official recipient of 46th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award. The ceremony will be held on June 7, 2018, in Los Angeles. The AFI award is the highest honour for the father of the twins, as he will be joining the list of honorees like Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, Tom Hanks, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Steven Spielberg, Jack Nicolson, Meryl Streep, and Diane Keaton, the last recipient of the prestigious award.
Clooney's contributions to Hollywood
George Clooney has been one of the multifaceted geniuses of Hollywood, whose contribution to the film industry goes far beyond his charming screen presence.
Apart from his charismatic personality and mesmerizing voice that has appealed the audiences, his passion for art too, has been reflected from his directorial efforts. In fact, he has been a successful writer, producer, and director, with his latest directorial effort "Suburbicon" starring Matt Demon all set to hit the theatres on October 27, 2017, after a successful screening at the Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto on Sept. 9, 2017. According to the chairman of AFI Board of Trustees, Sir Howard Stringer, the 56-year-old actor is "Director, producer, writer, and actor — a modern-day screen icon who combines the glamour of a time gone by with a ferocious passion for ensuring art's impact echoes beyond the screen."
Clooney's awards and recognitions
Throughout his acting career, Clooney has earned as many as eight nominations in the Academy Award, along with two wins, thereby setting the record for the highest number of nominations.
In 2005, Clooney won the Academy Award for the “Syriana” in the category of Best Supporting Actor, followed by the 2012 Oscar for “Argo” in the category of co-producer for the Best Picture. Apart from “Syriana,” the other films which earned him nominations for his ever charming personality and screen presence includes “Michael Clayton” (2007), “Up in The Air” (2009) and “The Descendants” (2011).
He earned the rest of his nominations for his directorial effort, “Good Night, and Good Luck” (2005) and for ”The Ides of March” (2011) in the category of Best Writing Adapted Screenplay.
Apart from his iconic contributions to the film industry, George Clooney has also devoted his time and efforts on social causes, climate changes etc. In fact, he has also received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award in 2010, from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for his efforts.
