She added that Selena's Walk of Fame star will be unveiled with the presence of the Quintanilla family, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, President/CEO Leron Gubler, along with guest speakers Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and actress Eva Longoria.
Reports further stated that the star will be received by Suzette Quintanilla on behalf of the family. Selena will become the 2,622nd artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the recording category. Fans of the late singer will be able to witness the highly anticipated recognition via live stream through the official website of Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“Since day one of Selena’s selection into the Walk of Fame, not a day went by that we were not asked by fans when Selena would get her star," said Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. "This day has come and fans from around the world will rejoice in her well-deserved honor."
Google pays tribute to Selena
The announcement came a few days after the world celebrated the 28th anniversary of Selena's debut self-titled album released on Oct. 17, 1989. Google Doodle also honored the "Dreaming Of You" artist with an animated video to remember her contribution to the music scene.
The one-minute clip showed a timeline of Selena's short-lived journey that made a huge impact to millions of music fans all over the world.
Google Doodle's Perla Campos said the late singer was her inspiration while growing up with her single mom.
The project manager said she and her team worked closely with the late singer's family to ensure the accuracy of the animated video. Suzette Quintanilla cooperated by giving them the little details about Selena, including her red nail polish, hoop earrings and others things that would remind the fans of the artist.
Selena has redefined Latin music during her reign as one of the most popular singers of her time. Her debut album was followed by four more releases before she was killed by her boutique manager, Yolanda Saldivar, in 1995.
