The CW released Riverdale earlier this year and it is already on its second season, which is set to premiere on television next week. It seems like the “Archie Comics” adaptation is expanding as a new spin-off television series is in the works.

Creator of “Riverdale,” Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, has updated his official Instagram account with a photo of a script for an adaptation of "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," which is also a reboot of the series called Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” Aguirre-Sacasa paired the photo with a caption stating that it’s the perfect project for October and it’s actually coming soon.

Sabrina takes on a new journey

Aguirre-Sacasa has been dropping hints about Sabrina Spellman for some time now and fans have always wondered if the teenage witch will be appearing anytime in the popular series, “Riverdale.” Well, that may seem likely but before that happens, Sabrina gets to star in her own television series.

This series is far from the comedy series that Melissa Joan Hart starred in since Aguirre-Sacasa will be basing the new “Riverdale” spin-off on his horror comic books titled, “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” The comic book series, which was inspired from “Afterlife with Archie,” was first published in October 2014, which sets the magical character to enjoy her teenage years in the 1960s.

Details on pilot episode

The spin-off is planned to be released between 2018 and 2019. While Aguirre-Sacasa is already working on it, The CW has collaborated with Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions to make sure that the adaptation moves forward.

The first episode of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger and Aguirre-Sacasa is already working on the script as revealed in his Instagram post.

Though the production has yet to reveal more details regarding the story, the revealing of the show’s script pointed out some hints.

Looking closely at the script that Aguirre-Sacasa teased, it is revealed that Sabrina is already dating Harvey Kinkle, confirming as well that he will be on the show. Given that the series is going to be another mystery thriller, Sabrina and Harvey are in the dark of the woods just so the former can explain to her boyfriend why she can’t go to Rosalind’s Halloween party this weekend.

The show looks like it’ll be kicking off with a scare and according to TV Line, the “Riverdale” spin-off could be similar to “The Exorcist” and “Rosemary’s Baby.” With Sabrina going off with a horror standalone series, the production crew is already paving way for a possible crossover.

The cast and crew of “Riverdale” have already revealed that the second season of the show is going to be darker and scarier. With the genre change, Sabrina appearing as guest character in the future seasons could be welcomed by fans.
