Russell Brand is taking back his words after he previously criticized his marriage with Katy Perry. In his documentary, titled "Brand: A Second Coming," released in 2015, the actor-comedian confessed his ex-wife's celebrity status has taken its toll on him.

He labeled the singer's lifestyle "vapid, vacuous, and plastic" and dubbed power and fame "bullsh*t." Russell Brand also cited his 2010 trip to Africa for Comic Relief as the turning point of his relationship with Katy Perry. Although he refused to share what took place at the charity event, the English star confessed the affair has made him realize how his values had changed since he married the popular singer.

Brand gushes over ex-wife Perry

At some point in the documentary, the "Rock of Ages" star admitted that he will have to call it quits with the singer in order to find happiness. But unlike these statements, the 42-year-old actor has nothing but good words to say about his former wife during a recent interview.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Russell Brand painted a good picture of Katy Perry before he wished her the best of luck as one of the judges of the "American Idol" reboot. "She was lovely. She's such a lovely person, I've got nothing but love for her," he mused.

He went to describe his marriage with the singer a "very wonderful time" although they have only been together for over a year.

Russell Brand first met Katy Perry during the filming of his movie "Get Him to the Greek" in 2009.

Inside Brand and Perry's short-lived romance

But it was until after their second meeting at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards that the two started seeing each other. Their relationship escalated quickly with an engagement on New Year's Eve of the same year.

Russell Brand and Katy Petty finally said their vows in a Hindu ceremony held in Rajasthan on October 23, 2010.

A few months after the two celebrated their first wedding anniversary, the actor-comedian filed for divorce from his then-wife due to irreconcilable differences. The separation was also explained in the singer's documentary, "Katy Perry: Part of Me," released in the same month the divorce was finalized.

It was revealed that Russell Brand and Katy Petty saw the end of their marriage due to their conflicting schedules and contrasting views on having kids. At that time, it was said that the singer was still not ready to have her own children with the comedian.

The actor-comedian wished her well for her upcoming gig with 'American Idol' reboot.
