The new episode of the second season of Riverdale just aired, and it introduced another Archie Comics character. The CW show’s latest episode tackled a lot of things including Jughead Jones’s present situation in his new school.

Prior to the premiere of “Riverdale” Season 2, the cast and crew confirmed that a new Serpent character would be introduced. It was said that she will be helping Jughead learn the ropes around Southside High School. This new character was set to be portrayed by actress Vanessa Morgan.

Jughead Jones gets a new friend

Finally on “Riverdale” Season 2 Episode 4, the new character named Toni Topaz made her debut appearance.

Apparently, Toni is a member of the Southside Serpents, and aside from helping Jughead get around in his new high school, she’ll also be acting as Jughead’s guide into the world of the Serpents.

However, in the new episode, Jughead insisted that he wasn’t a Serpent, and pointed out that he had no intentions of following in his father’s footsteps. Nonetheless, Toni told him that it’s wise to stick with the Serpents for protection, especially in this shady part of Riverdale.

Who is Toni Topaz?

There's more to Toni than the initial details that “Riverdale” revealed about her. Just like the other characters in the show, Toni was also adapted from the original Archie Comics.

She was introduced as a pink-haired canon character in 2012 in the 176th issue of “Jughead Double Digest.” However, unlike in the show, Toni and Jughead didn’t actually get along well.

They were even dubbed rivals who went up against each other in various eating contests.

In addition, Toni was a student at Riverdale High in the comics. She actually got along well with the rest of the gang, especially Betty Cooper, since they were in a band together. However, that might not be the case after the show just revealed Betty and Toni's first meeting to be an awkward one.

It’s still too early to tell if Jughead and Toni will eventually be at each other's throats, but earlier spoilers from showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said that the two will be tight since she’s probably the only friend Jughead made in Southside High. The two hit it off because they actually had a lot in common when it comes to certain aspects, such as their huge appetite.

The two might get close, but the show has geared up Toni to stir trouble as well. She is reportedly going to be a huge obstacle between Jughead and Betty’s relationship, which might even lead to them drifting apart.
