The sequel to the blockbuster movie “Pacific Rim” has finally released its new official trailer, revealing a bigger cast and a whole new set of machines that are ready to save the world. The trailer has gotten great reviews and with the hype heightening, the creators of “Pacific Rim: Uprising” are on their toes, hoping that the sequel is as good as the first movie.
Directed this time by Steven S. DeKnight, the sequel has always been planned by producer Guillermo del Toro, even before the original movie was released in 2013. A few years later, the movie has finally been set in stone and scheduled to make its premiere on March 23, 2018.
‘Star Wars’ actor takes the lead
English actor John Boyega, who became well-known for his role as Finn in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” takes the lead as he portrays the starring role of a new character named Jake Pentecost. Along with Boyega, actors Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, and Jing Tian have also been added to play the main roles of Nate Lambert, Amara Namani, and Liwen Shao respectively. This according to a report by Entertainment Weekly.
Actors Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, and Rinko Kikuchi will be returning to “Pacific Rim: Uprising” to reprise their respective roles as Dr. Newt Geizler, Dr. Hermann Gottlieb, and Mako Mori. Aside from the promising cast, the sequel will be introducing new Jaegers that fans will surely go crazy for.
New Jaegers in the sequel
It’s a fact that the Jaegers in the movie are the main attraction and the original movie did well in revealing what they can actually do. In “Pacific Rim: Uprising,” not only will they be introducing a new set of Jaegers but they will also be exploring a whole new level of what these mechas can do.
The new Jaeger mechas include Gypsy Avenger, which is an upgraded version of Gypsy Danger that appeared in the first movie.
The other new Jaegars are Bracer Phoenix, a brute force manned by three pilots, and Saber Athena, a highly advanced mecha that wields two plasma swords.
The new roster is completed with Titan Redeemer, a cool Jaeger that uses a weapon called Ball of Death, and the Guardian Bravo, another strong Jaeger that utilizes an arc whip as a weapon.
A small Jaeger named Scrapper, which was created based on stolen PPDC technology will also be revealed.
A new generation of pilots and Jaegers unite once again to go up against evolved enemies. The story is set ten years after the Battle of the Breach and the world has learned from its mistakes. Countries have evolved their Jaeger programs to strengthen their defenses and to ward off the possible return of the Kaiju threat.
Sequel aims to open a new world
The first “Pacific Rim” film was no doubt a box office hit, claiming favorable responses and reviews, especially from its international release. It’s well known that sequels don’t usually live up to their original movies but director DeKnight is hoping that “Pacific Rim: Uprising” will be as good as the first film, if not better.
DeKnight revealed at New York Comic-Con that they’re hoping that the success of “Pacific Rim: Uprising” will finally open up a bigger franchise and an expanded cinematic universe for the Jaeger-centered story. The director further shared that they really want to explore the franchise’s universe, even making sure that the sequel has notable references to the first movie.
