Cher has officially joined the cast of the highly anticipated "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" film sequel. According to reports, the 71-year-old singing legend will be taking on the role of Meryl Streep's character's mother in the upcoming film. This is great news for Cher fans who noticed the "I Got You Babe" singer beginning to tease of some upcoming big news on October 16 on her Twitter social media account.

Cher's return to movies

Not only will fans get to see Cher back in action on the big screen for the first time since her 2010 role of Tess in "Burlesque," but this will be a bit of a 'screw you" from Cher to some of the tabloid media outlets who have been reported for the past few years that Cher was in failing health and on her deathbed.

At last report from one celebrity hated tabloid, Cher was unable to perform any longer and was spending what appeared to be her last days (again) in a hospital bed. However, Cher seems to have a different goal in mind at this time in her life and appears at her best, looking fit, vibrant and full of the same spitfire that fans have grown to love throughout her long-running career.

The singer/actress began her career in 1960 with late husband Sonny Bono and hasn't stopped yet more than five decades later. Fans are excited to see Cher return to the big screen next to old friend Meryl Streep, 68. This will not be the first time to the two women have worked together. In 1983 Cher and Meryl starred alongside Kurt Russell in the hit film "Silkwood."
