This week on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5, viewers got to see how the squad sans Jake (Andy Samberg) and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) came down on Lt. Melanie Hawkins (guest star Gina Gershon) to finally catch her diamond smuggling operation. The capture did not come without its consequences, however.

In "The Big House Pt. 2," viewers were immediately introduced to "Prison Break" star Paul Adelstein, who introduced himself as Seamus Murphy, a high profile criminal who had a tip on how to catch Lt. Hawkins' and her illegal diamond smuggling operation.

He caught Amy (Melissa Fumero) during her trip to the library and left her his number. Desperate, she considered contacting him for information in return for a favor that he may need in the future. During the first half of the episode, it looked clear that Amy was willing to risk her career for Jake, a move that was later made by another character.

Captain Holt gets Jake and Rosa out of jail

One of the recurring themes of the FOX workplace comedy is the father-and-son relationship between Jake and Captain Holt (Andre Braugher). Throughout the four seasons of the show, fans watched as Captain Holt slowly accepted Jake as a son through various sacrifices Jake made for Holt and vice versa.

Fans would remember how in the end of the second season, Holt was ousted as the captain of the precinct, a fact that was remedied in the third season when Jake went after a serial killer and later gave up the credit in exchange for Holt coming back as captain of the 99th precinct.

In "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 3, Captain Holt makes a sacrifice and contacts Seamus Murphy for the tip to finally catch Lt. Hawkins and subsequently get Jake and Rosa out of jail.

Twist revealed at the end of the episode

By the end of this week's episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5, Captain Holt got a phone call from Seamus Murphy, revealing to the audiences that it was him and not Amy who asked for a tip from the criminal.

He cast a pained look at Jake because it was clear that he was happy that Jake was back, but knew that lying to him about what he did will have its repercussions.

Jake stuck in desk duty

Now that Jake has bid goodbye to his prison beard and hello to the precinct, Captain Holt is temporarily putting him on desk duty. Next week's episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 3 will see Jake struggling with desk duty because he so badly wants to solve a real case. While he does find a loophole around his desk duty, he has to pass an official evaluation by Holt. The next episode titled "Kicks" will air on Tuesday, October 10.
