Rian Johnson is in Tokyo, Japan for the promotion of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” The 43-year-old director dropped a new detail about the upcoming movie and his possible stint as “Episode 9” director after Colin Trevorrow’s exit.

There will be a new guest star coming in the sequel trilogy’s second installment. As the movie is known to have high-profile character, another one is about to be added to the long list of its famous cameo roles.

Gordon-Levitt’s cameo role

In a Japanese tweet by Premiere Report, Rian Johnson revealed that his good friend, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, will be heard in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

“I think this is ok to say,” the director told the crowd.

The 36-year-old actor will be having a voice acting role in the film. However, the news didn’t come as a surprise as he was also seen in the director’s other movies like “Looper,” “Brick,” and “The Brothers Bloom,” NME reported. But, unlike Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig's cameo roles in “The Force Awakens,” Gordon-Levitt will be lending his voice to a virtual character - specifically an alien.

“It’s a very brief, little thing but it’s fun,” Rian Johnson teased. If fans carefully watch and hear the film, they could probably notice his voice. That was the first time that the filmmaker revealed something about the new cameo role. He also revealed that “The Last Jedi” is almost ready for its release.

In fact, the film just needs a few days of work to be finally done, and he will do it the moment he returns to L.A. He, too, teased that the cast members themselves were surprised to see the characters’ development in the film.

Johnson not doing ‘Episode 9’

Talking about “Star Wars: Episode 9,” Rian Johnson admitted that it had never been part of the plan that he is going to direct the movie.

"[I] don’t know what’s gonna happen,” he said while promoting “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in Japan.

He explained that he was entirely focused doing “The Force Awakens” follow-up. So, he is not thinking about doing the final installment to the sequel trilogy. He also said that he is just going to sit down and wait who will be the next director of the controversial film.

Johnson is said to be one of the possible new directors that will handle the making of the new movie. Another one is the “Episode 7” filmmaker JJ Abrams. And now, Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed that Abrams will be directing and writing “Episode 9.”

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will hit the theaters on Dec. 15 in the U.S.
