“America’s got talent” finalist Evie Clair might not be able to return to the Grand Finals this week due to her father’s death, Simon Cowell told Extra. The grand finals of the reality talent search will be aired on September 19 and September 20.
Cowell spoke with the entertainment news show on Tuesday night and hinted about the possibility of Clair not being able to compete in the grand finals. Her father recently died after his long battle with colon cancer.
“We reached out to the family and her and said, ‘It is your choice whether you want to come on the show or not,’” the judge told Extra.
He added that if she does not come back, they will welcome her back again next year.
Evie Clair’s father dies
The father of this 13-year-old singer died on September 7 leaving behind his five children and his wife, AZ Central reported. He died a few days after his daughter made it to the final round of “America’s Got Talent.”
Right after her father’s death, Clair took to social media to post her thoughts and her memories of her father. She posted a few photos of them together on Instagram, sharing how she will miss her dad.
She added that she will cherish the last memories with him, teaching her how to dance the salsa and introducing her to their faith, the AZ Central noted as well. Clair’s father was recently buried at Mesa Cemetery, with his family and relatives attending the ceremony.
The young singer sent her gratitude to her followers on social media and those who paid tribute to her dad. Meanwhile, “America’s Got Talent” has earlier sent their condolences to the family and tweeted that they are “deeply saddened” about the event, adding that their hearts are with them “during this difficult time.”
Grand finals
Evie Clair went through all the earlier rounds of the competition before she finally reached the finals.
During the judges’ auditions, she performed her own rendition of “Arms” by Christina Perri and dedicated the song to her father who was still alive then.
NBC’s popular reality talent search will have a two-episode grand finals this week, a performance night and a results show. The top 10 finalists competing for the title include dance groups Diavolo and Light Balance, animal act Sara and Hero, comedian Preacher Lawson and singers Angelica Hale, Mandy Harvey, Chase Goehring, Mike Yung, Darci Lynne Farmer, Kechi Okwuchi and Evie Clair.
“America’s Got Talent” is hosted by Tyra Banks. Judges Mel B, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Simon Cowell will select the winner along with America’s votes.
