On Thursday, Beyoncé released a new single and music video entitled ‘’Mi Gente.” The new song is a remix to J. Balvin and Willy Williams. This song is intended to aid the relief efforts in areas affected by Hurricane Maria, Us Weekly reported.
Beyoncé made the announcement via her Instagram account and wrote that she’s giving all the earnings from “Mi Gente.” It will be given to relief charities for Puerto Rico, Mexico, and other affected Caribbean Island by the storm. “Mi Gente” is Beyoncé’s first new song after giving birth to the twins Rumi and Sir on June 13.
Passionately involved in relief efforts
"Hurricane Maria" is the third storm to landfall in the US within the months of August and September. Category 4 "Hurricane Harvey" landed in the State of Texas on August 25, while category 4 "Hurricane Irma" landed in areas between Florida and Puerto Rico two weeks after "Hurricane Harvey." These catastrophic events have killed the lives of many and left the areas mentioned with billions of damages in properties.
Then, "Hurricane Maria" came earlier this week, with the same intensity of wind to "Hurricane Irma" and the same level of the flood to "Hurricane Harvey," as reported by CNN. Adding up to the problems brought by the prior strong storms.
The government and the people of the U.S.
have extended their efforts, time and money to help in rescuing the victims and in saving lives. Celebrities offered their wealth and time to aid the hurricane relief efforts, and to mention, Beyoncé is one of them.
The "Single Ladies'' singer has been generously involved in relief efforts to help victims of hurricane "Havey" and "Irma."
When "Hurricane Harvey" hit her hometown in Houston, she went home to help.
Together with her daughter Blue Ivy, mother Tina Knowles, and former bandmate Michelle Williams, they visited St. Johns Church to speak personally with the victims. They gave them foods and supplies. According to reports, the singer sponsored 400 luncheons for all the people during her visit.
Her BeyGOOD Foundation partnered with Bread of Life to help raise a fund for the victims of "Hurricane Harvey." Bread of Life is a Houston-based non-profit organization.
On the other hand, after "Hurricane Irma" hit, a telethon called "Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane" was organized on September 12. The event was able to raise $44 million on that night, and Beyonce was part of it.
