“Venom” is now in its pre-production stage as its cast members are being completed. As Tom Hardy is set to play the titular role, Eddie Brock, there are swirling rumors that Riz Ahmed is now in talks to play a role in the movie.
However, as Sony has yet to confirm the 34-year-old actor’s casting, it is not yet revealed what role he is going to play. But, according to the Hollywood Reporter’s sources, he may play a well-known Marvel Comics character.
New film’s details
It has been said that Sony is now looking for an actor to play the role of the antagonist Carnage in “Venom.” But, Riz Ahmed is said to be not playing this character.
According to THR, the insiders revealed that the “Nightcrawler” star is already chosen to play an unrevealed role even before the movie’s script has been changed.
Tom Hardy will be leading the film as Eddie Brock, the photographer who will encounter an alien symbiote that will turn him to become Venom. Although he is known as one of Spiderman’s biggest villains, he is also an antihero who wants to protect the innocent people.
Sony has claimed earlier that “Venom” will never play a part in the “Spider-Man” universe, thus it will be a stand-alone film.
“Jumanji” and “The Dark Tower” writers, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner will be writing the upcoming movie’s script while Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Matt Tolmach will be its producer.
Palak Patel and Eric Fineman will be overseeing the movie for Columbia Pictures while Ruben Fleischer will be directing the film.
Possible characters Ahmed could play
As the role Riz Ahmed is going to play in “Venom” remains a big mystery, Comic Book reported the possible characters he might be portraying.
“The Night Of” actor might be playing the role of Kraven the Hunter.
There are emerging reports that Sony is eyeing to make Kraven and Mysterio’s spin-off movies, thus this might be its way to introduce one of Spider-Man’s biggest baddies.
Next is the Chameleon. He is the classic 1963 villain of Peter Parker. However, he is not yet seen on the big screen. As his name describes, he is changing his looks with the help of makeup, clothing, and impersonating.
Thus, he has no superpowers to brag.
The third possible role he could play is Norman Osborn or the Green Goblin. He is already seen in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” If this character is going to be featured in “Venom,” it might have a connection with other “Spider-Man” films. Lastly, he could be Ben Reilly aka Scarlet Spider, the clone of Peter Parker. Although this might come as a big surprise, this will give way for the web-slinger and the alien symbiote to face each other.
