With the upcoming fifth season of “The Originals” deemed to be its last, the CW is scrambling to put together some of the stars of the “The Vampire Diaries” universe to at least make an appearance in the series.

However, there is one star that is already sure she is not going to participate in it: Nina Dobrev.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Dobrev was succinct and concise in saying that she will not be on the show.

Why Nina Dobrev is not returning

“No, I will not be on ‘The Originals,’ no,” she said in an interview. She also squashed hope that she will be returning to the role of Elena Gilbert anytime soon, citing scheduling conflicts in the increasing number of projects in her flourishing career.

She also says that her age may contribute to this reason as she can no longer play a 20-year old vampire.

It can be remembered that showrunner and executive producer Julie Plec was hinting of a possible reunion in ten years for both “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals.”

She said that there are still many stories that have not been explored that may be ripe for storytelling in a few years.

Other co-stars to make an appearance

While Dobrev has not committed to a return to “The Originals” season 5, her former co-star Candice King is already on the set of the show to reprise her role.

While not much is known about her appearance other than she will be seen in the first episode, it was at least hinted that Klaus’ daughter, Hope, will be a part of the supernatural boarding school that was built by King’s character Caroline.

According to Pop Sugar, there is also a possibility that Caroline will be talking about her love for Stefan Salvatore in the series as she is seen wearing the same engagement ring that was given to her in the last season of “The Vampire Diaries.”

This may be awkward as there was a time when Caroline was also involved romantically to the original vampire Klaus.

Whether Hope will learn about her father and Caroline’s past may be one storyline for “The Originals” season 5. There is still no word as to whether other “The Vampire Diaries” stars like Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley will be making their way to New Orleans in one way or another for “The Originals” season 5.

“The Originals” is a spin-off series of the show Dobrev was in for almost seven years, “The Vampire Diaries.” It stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, and Phoebe Tonkin.

Dobrev, on the other hand, will next be seen in the remake of the 1990 film “Flatliners.” Other cast members include Ellen Page, Diego Luna and James Norton.
