A feminist icon may be joining the just-announced “Wonder Woman 2” movie. Geena Davis, famous for her Institute that focused on reducing the stereotypical portrayals of female characters in various media, has disclosed that she is very interested to make an appearance in the upcoming superhero movie sequel.
More feminist cred to ‘Wonder Woman 2’
According to ABC News, Geena Davis has acknowledged that she has already met with the presumed “Wonder Woman 2” director and told her that she will be very willing to appear as an Amazonian warrior.
She praised how the film turned out and how it was revolutionary for the entire genre of filmmaking.
“Certainly Wonder Woman needed to be made, and I’m so beyond thrilled with how it came out,” the “Stuart Little” actress said.
The Oscar winner will be very right at home, along with Gal Gadot, as she has earned a reputation for her ability to handle feminist and action movies as evidenced by her roles in the movies “Thelma and Louise,” “Marjorie Prime” and “Cutthroat Island.”
Patty Jenkins’ big raise
In other “Wonder Woman 2” news, it seems Warner Brothers Pictures is fighting hard to keep Patty Jenkins in the franchise. Film School Rejects reports that Jenkins is in the final stages of negotiations to direct the second movie in the series.
It may be possible that Jenkins will be able to negotiate as much as $10 million for helming the picture, almost the same amount that fellow DC director Zack Snyder was paid.
She may also get a 10 percent cash break along with her salary.
Even without that, Jenkins is already the highest-grossing female director of all time and her deal may signal a positive shift for other female directors in the game.
“Wonder Woman” is notable as it may become one of the most successful DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movies critically and commercially after “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” failed to register positively with critics.
It is also praised for its feminist ideals and for the acting of both Gal Gadot and on-screen love interest Chris Pine. The movie has earned $800 million at the worldwide box office and counting (it has not come out in some major markets like Japan).
“Wonder Woman 2” is expected to be in theaters on Friday, December 13, 2019.
Geena Davis will next be seen in the second season of the horror television series “The Exorcist” this fall while Gal Gadot will be appearing in the “Justice League” movie, which will be released on Friday, November 17, 2017.
