“Bachelor in Paradise” can boast yet another engagement. “Bachelor” alums Taylor Nolan and Derek Peth got engaged during the after show for the fourth season of the ABC summertime reality show, according to People. The news comes after the couple was shown arguing over Peth’s use of the F-word when talking about their future together, and Taylor’s doubts over the relationship.
Trouble in paradise
While their relationship seemed solid early on, during the most recent episode of “Bachelor in Paradise,” Taylor Nolan expressed serious doubts about continuing her romance with Derek Peth.
Nolan made it clear that the way a man talks to her is a very important part of the relationship, and she didn’t like his use of the F-word when he said it to her. Taylor said she found the word disrespectful and told Derek she needed some time away from him.
The couple patched things up, and obviously, things ultimately worked out for the lovebirds. According to E! News, Derek proposed to Taylor with a three-karat Neil Lane ring worth more than $60,000. Neil Lane is the signature jeweler for ABC’s “Bachelor” franchise, and he makes quarterly visits to the shows with his bling-filled briefcase.
More Paradise proposals
Derek Peth and Nolan’s engagement is the fourth “Bachelor" proposal in the past year.
Of last year’s three engaged couples, only one of them, Evan Bass and Carly Waddell, made it down the aisle. Evan and Carly’s wedding was officiated by longtime franchise host Chris Harrison and was filmed by the “Bachelor in Paradise” cameras in Mexico earlier this summer.
Some of the other couples, like Josh Murray and Amanda Stanton, are no longer on speaking terms.
Stanton is back on the current season of “Bachelor in Paradise” and is in a serious relationship with fellow franchise alum Robby Hayes.
Two years ago, fellow franchise couple Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert also met and fell in love on “Bachelor in Paradise” and tied the knot on TV. The Tolberts recently welcomed their first child together.
While most “Bachelor” franchise engagements don’t seem to work out (the show’s track record over more than 30 seasons is pretty grim) with any luck, the one-wedding-a-year trend will continue as far as “Bachelor in Paradise” goes and fans will see Derek Peth and Taylor Nolan’s wedding play out sometime soon on ABC.
The “Bachelor in Paradise” Season 4 finale airs Monday, September 11 at 8 p.m. on ABC, with the after show following it.
