The film has grossed over $380 million domestically and more than $500 million internationally. So far, “Wonder Woman 2” is the only release slated for December 2019, and the announcement came a few days after Warner Bros.
gave a February 2019 date to an untitled DCU film.
The release date is confirmed
Within two months, “Wonder Woman” has made itself one of the major blockbusters of this season. It has surpassed numbers for Disney’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2” and Warner’s “Harry Potter.” A sequel to the film was announced on July 22, 2017, when Warner Bros. confirmed at San Diego Comic Con that filming would begin within a few weeks. According to Polygon, Patty Jenkins is still in talks to return as a director. The news website also reports that the movie may set during the 1980s - some fans speculate that “Wonder Woman 2” will be released in IMAX, but there is no official confirmation in this regard.
In an interview with Variety, Geoff Johns revealed that he and Patty were writing the story of a “Wonder Woman” sequel and that he had some “great ideas for the new film.” However, there is no information whether Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Lucy Davis, Elena Anaya, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen will return to the sequel or not.
Is Charlize Theron joining sequel in a unique role?
Harper's Bazaar claimed that the "Wonder Woman" sequel could welcome Charlize Theron in a supporting character. The "Atomic Blonde" actress also revealed that she would like to board the follow-up movie, but she had not finalized the deal with Warner Bros. Charlize Theron and Patty Jenkins worked together on the 2003 film "Monster," where the actress earned an Oscar for her incredible performance.
“Charlize Theron is hard-working, beautiful, yet yielding. I consider working with her as one of the high points of my life,” Patty Jenkins said in a statement to Harper's Bazaar.
Charlize, on the other hand, said she had a good experience on the set of "Monster," however, there is no word from Warner Bros. whether Charlize Theron will be a part of “Wonder Woman II” or not. It is rumored that Charlize is cast in the role of Antiope, which was previously played by Robin Wright.
