This 2017, horror fans will be treated with much dread as the highly anticipated “Saw” spinoff titled, “Jigsaw” and the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s “It” will be released in theaters before Halloween. To tease the fans, a “Jigsaw” trailer was released, while Pennywise was introduced at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con on Wednesday.
As we await the comeback of two notorious serial killers Jigsaw and Pennywise this fall, let’s delve into the new details of the highly anticipated horror movie franchises. Stephen King’s “It” will hit theaters on Sept.
8 while “Saw 8: Jigsaw” will debut on Oct. 27.
Upcoming ‘Saw’ spin-off
Six long years after the last installment in the “Saw” franchise, another spinoff is about to be released. Based on the newly released trailer, the cast will be playing a “new psychotic game” but will follow the same set of rules from the past — “Live or die. The choice is yours.”
The official movie trailer also hinted at some gory details that the upcoming sequel will offer. According to Entertainment Weekly, the cast is “chained up in a room with buckets on their head.” Their chains are then pulled closer to a “wall of spinning saw blades” but Jigsaw will challenge them with three syringes and a motorcycle deathtrap.
The sequel’s director, Michael Spierig (together with Peter Spierig) also revealed that they have incorporated several “interesting twists and wild traps.” Even though the spinoff may not be as “vicious,” Spierig stressed it’s a “perfect Halloween scare-fest.”
Cast and plot
As for the cast, Tobin Bell is back to reprise his role as John Kramer aka Jigsaw.
He is also joined by Callum Keith Rennie, Brittany Allen, Laura Vandervoort, James Gomez, Michael Boisvert, Shaquan Lewis, Josiah Black, Hannah Emily Anderson, Matt Passmore and Mandela Van Peebles.
The plot will depict the events of a murder investigation where victims are brutally killed. But what’s more appalling are the clues that are pointing to the vicious acts of notorious serial killer Jigsaw, who has been dead for a decade.
Meanwhile, the new trailer and photos were released by Lionsgate ahead of its programming schedule at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 21.
‘It’ movie adaptation
Aside from the eighth installment of “Saw,” Stephen King’s “It” was also introduced at the Comic-Con through “three reels of footage.” During the preview, film director Andy Muschietti reminded the audience that the movie adaptation is not only a horror movie but also a film that depicts the stories of love and friendship.
In the second scene, child-killing clown Pennywise (played by Bill Skarsgård) finally made an eerie appearance from a treeline. What’s really creepy about this scene is when the clown waves a hand that isn't his own.
Instead, it is a “child’s hand that is ripped off at the elbow.” Pennywise is then seen “nibbling on the raw end” of the hand while he wears a bloody smile. Meanwhile, the Comic-Con presentation of “It” ended with a preview of the film’s newest trailer. Unfortunately, it won’t be released until next week.
The upcoming film, which was given an R rating by the MPAA, will also feature actors Logan Thompson, Owen Teague, Nicholas Hamilton, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Sophia Lillis, Jack Dylan Grazer, Jaeden Liberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor and Finn Wolfhard. It will follow Pennywise’s return to Derry, Maine as he prepares to torment a new generation of kids.
