With fan theories proliferating left and right about "Game of Thrones" Season 7, fans are trying to piece together the connections between the characters of the epic HBO series as they try to navigate the show without George RR Martin's books for reference. The author of "A Song of Ice and Fire" has yet to release the sixth book in the series "Winds of Winter" and the events of television series has long passed the contents of the literature. A fan theory has recently suggested a connection between the wildling Tormund Giantsbane and Lyanna Mormont.
Tormund and Maege Mormont
While Tormund Giantsbane has more than made his interest in Brienne of Tarth evident in "Game of Thrones" Season 6, Youtuber Alt Shift X has suggested that the wildling may have been romantically involved with a Northerner in the past. It can be recalled that Tormund once mentioned in passing that he became intimate with a bear and many viewers and readers dismissed the statement as a bluff.
However, the fan theory suggested that the bear that Tormund may have been referring to was indeed Maege Mormont, Lyanna's mother. The Mormont family hails from Bear Island where Jon and Sansa first met the young Mormont. It can also be recalled in "Game of Thrones" Season 6 when Lyanna referred to her mother not as a beauty but as a warrior who fought side by side with the Starks for Robb's crusade to avenge his father's death at the hands of the Lannisters.
If Maege Mormont had an affair with Tormund, it would make a lot of sense since she has the qualities that the wildling admires in a woman. Maege and Brienne are both brave warriors who are afraid of no man and can well protect themselves in battle. It remains to be seen in "Game of Thrones" Season 7 if showrunners will explore this angle since Lyanna and Tormund's interaction still remains limited even after the epic Battle of the Bastards.
Lyanna the brave
Netizens who were already impressed by Lyanna Mormont in "Game of Thrones" Season 6 were even more impressed with her in the premiere of Season 7. Much like she showed here courage and loyalty to the Starks in the previous season, Lyanna once again stood out in the meeting of the house lords when she spoke about equality.
"I don't plan on knitting by the fire while men fight for me," Lyanna said in one of "Game of Thrones" Season 7 premiere's most memorable quotes. She went on to say that she may be a girl but her gender did not make her any less of a northerner than any of the men in the room. If Lyanna proves to be Tormund Giantsbane's daughter, it would be too surprising because both characters show similar traits of courage and feistiness.
