Aaron Carter, the younger brother of Backstreet Boys boy band member Nick Carter, made headlines over the weekend when he was arrested in Georgia on Saturday. According to the reports, the arrest was due to the suspicion of Marijuana Possession and driving under the influence.

Based on the statement of Captain Floyd Canup of the Habersham County sheriff’s office, the 29-year-old singer was taken into custody for several misdemeanor charges such as possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, possession of drug-related paraphernalia and DUI. Apart from Aaron, his girlfriend Madison Parker was also detained and charged with obstruction and two alleged marijuana-related offenses.

Breaking his silence

Due to the incident, Aaron’s brother Nick posted a shout out on Twitter, saying he loves him and their family is willing to help him get better. The “Fool’s Gold” singer then broke his silence by speaking out against his big bro and the authorities.

In fact, Aaron Carter slammed Nick’s tweet by posting his own statement on the same social media platform. He said that if his family really cared about him, they would have personally called him instead of reaching out through social media.

“If my own blood truly cared about my well-being, why wouldn't he call me directly and have a conversation instead of making this about him through a very public forum?” Aaron said.

“That's not cool at all to use me for his PR and kick me while I am down. I love my family despite it through thick and thin.”

Carter family’s response

Following Aaron’s statements, Nick responded by “retweeting” the message posted by their sister, Lauren Kitt Carter.

The tweet suggested that the family couldn’t reach Aaron privately as he constantly changes his number.

Aaron, however, did not only slam his family’s statements. In fact, he claimed that the authorities arrested him due to his celebrity status or popularity.

In his statement, Nick’s brother claimed that “the police also revoked his rights to have an attorney.”

Marijuana possession explained

Aside from reacting to his siblings’’ tweet, Aaron also explained his own version of the story. For the marijuana possession, Aaron reportedly possessed a “medical license” for marijuana usage due to his anxiety issues. It was also explained that an Auto Zone video will show that Aaron was arrested and charged with a DUI despite not being in a moving vehicle.

Meanwhile, Aaron Carter has been busy for promoting his latest single, “Sooner or Later,” but before he was arrested, he missed a Kansas City show due to “transportation issues.” Fortunately, he is currently out of jail after posting the $4,160 bail bond and is scheduled to continue his promotional tour in Alabama on Tuesday, Jul. 18.
