Adam West, 88, has died after his battle with leukemia on Friday in Los Angeles. The bereaved family of the actor, who is known for starring in "Batman" series during 1960s, announced the sad news on his social media. "Our beloved AW passed away last night. He was the greatest," the family wrote. "We'll miss him like crazy. We know you'll miss him too."

The late actor was the first to portray the superhero role for a TV series which ran on ABC from 1966 to 1968.

Similarly, Adam West was picked for the film version of "Batman" released in 1966. Before he had his breakthrough for playing the DC Comics character, the American actor has starred in a few feature films, including "The Outer Limits" and "Overland Trail."

Life after 'Batman' stardom

After his Caped Crusader role, Adam West led "The Girl Who Knew Too Much," a 1969 neo noir film which follows the life of a nightclub owner who was involved in an investigation after a high-profile crime syndicate boss was killed inside his club. Unlike the blockbuster performance of his "Batman" feature film, the Francis D. Lyon creation flopped and earned a lackluster completion.

In fact, the late actor struggled to find a feature role that will at least match the success of his "Batman" character. He continued his acting career doing TV and movie appearances as the Dark Knight superhero. The legendary personality also did several voice over gigs. He was a regular of "Family Guy" as Rhode Island's Mayor Adam West, which brought him back in the spotlight.

'He will always be Batman'

Adam West's death came as a shocker to his co-stars and DC Comics fans. In fact, "Batman" actors, including Ben Affleck, Val Kilmer, and Will Arnett, have expressed their grief on the passing of the veteran personality. Ben Affleck, the newest face of the superhero character, said the senior actor is an epitome of heroism.

He even praised him for his happy and kind disposition.

Val Kilmer, on the other hand, recalled his last meeting with Adam West, stating that the late actor was "so kind" and a "real [gentleman]." Meanwhile, Philip Lord, director of "LEGO Batman Movie," branded Adam West his "childhood superhero."

Jason O'Mara and Kevin Conroy also remembered Adam West for his funny portrayal the superhero role, adding that the deceased actor has brought so much entertainment during their childhood days. More than anything, the two are saying goodbye to a friend who have played an integral role in their lives.
