Kathy Griffin is in hot water, and even her longtime friend Anderson Cooper can’t keep her from drowning. Griffin has been fired by CNN in the aftermath of the graphic photo and video she posted that showed her holding a fake severed head of President Donald Trump, according to Variety. Griffin has been under fire for the disturbing photo by both Trump’s haters and supporters, but now the stunt has really hurt her career.
Griffin’s history with CNN
Kathy Griffin has been a part of CNN”s New Years Eve festivities since 2007 alongside the news network’s longtime anchor Anderson Cooper.
CNN condemned Griffin’s bloody beheading photo before swiftly taking action to remove her from the New Year’s Eve lineup ahead of what would have been the duo’s 10th anniversary for the late night party.
Kathy Griffin has already apologized for the photo. In a teary-eyed video posted to Twitter, the sharp-tongued comedienne admitted that she went entirely too far with the disturbing image. Griffin said she is a comic and she makes mistakes. She removed the photo and asked for forgiveness, reiterating that she is very sorry for offending people. Unfortunately, in today’s digital age of screenshots, the photo will live on social media forever.

While Kathy Griffin is clearly sorry for her actions, President Trump didn’t seem to accept her apology.
In his own Twitter post, the POTUS said Griffin should be “ashamed" of herself.
“My children, especially my 11-year-old son Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!” Trump wrote.
Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!

Cooper says he is appalled
In addition, Kathy’s longtime ally Anderson Cooper has distanced himself from her.
Cooper posted his thoughts about the incident on Twitter, saying that, for the record, he was “appalled” by Kathy’s photo shoot. Anderson described the photo as “clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.”
For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.

Kathy Griffin’s friendship with Anderson Cooper goes back many years.
The comic is also close with Cooper’s mother, Gloria Vanderbilt. In a 2015 interview with the website Seven Days, Griffin even joked that Gloria, whom she fondly refers to as “Glo,” is “so much cooler than [Anderson] is.” Kathy said that one of her favorite things to do is torture Cooper with “reminding him that he'll never be as much fun as his 90-year-old mother.”
There is no word on who will replace Kathy Griffin on the CNN New Year’s Eve countdown later this year.
