Actress Scarlett Johansson recently commented on the interview between Ivanka Trump and Gayle King and addressed Ivanka's controversial "complicity" comment. According to the International Business Times, Johansson, who stars in the new movie “Ghost in the Shell," explained to Ariana Huffington that "you can't have it both ways" — when someone is employed as a public advocate, then they must advocate publicly.

‘Saturday Night Live’ and the Ivanka ‘Complicit’ ad

During March Johansson joined a growing number of stars making waves on “Saturday Night Live” by doing a parody perfume advertisement for Ivanka Trump’s new fragrance, which was sarcastically dubbed “Complicit.” The parody ad was in response to the recent news that U.S. President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter is complicit to her father’s policies, while doing nothing to actually stop them. The "SNL" comedy skit was pretty funny, but Johansson reportedly isn’t laughing too much right now.

Ivanka Trump and old-fashioned ideas

Continuing to explain her disappointment with Ivanka, Johansson pointed out that Trump's daughter had said, should she make a great change, this would be behind closed doors and that nobody would know that she was responsible for making that change. Scarlett went on to say that Ivanka’s ideas are “old-fashioned” and date back to the ideology that says there is a great woman behind every great man.

She asked, why not be in front of them? According to Scarlett, Ivanka's attitude is both uninspired and really cowardly.

As reported by The Cut, Scarlett did acknowledge that it must be a pretty weird situation to be Trump’s daughter, while your husband handles foreign policy in the Middle East.

She said it must get pretty complicated, on many levels, to see one of your parents in this kind of position, all the while knowing deep down it is a position he didn’t really want to be in. As his daughter, and someone who looks up to him, it must be a strange and unique situation, but Scarlett does say Ivanka has the opportunity to make a really big impact, if only she could be vocal about it.

Ivanka Trump baffles Scarlett Johansson

Reportedly the Hollywood actress and Ivanka have met several times and both of them grew up in New York and have friends in common.

According to Johansson, Trump’s eldest daughter is a very smart, well-spoken, and intelligent woman, so the entire situation completely baffles her.
