It seems like Josh Brolin is getting his work in as a comic book movie actor. Not only is Brolin playing Thanos in the Marvel Universe Avengers movies but now he has signed on to a four-picture deal to play the Mutant Cable in the Fox X-Men universe as well. Deadline reports that Brolin has signed a four-picture deal to play Cable in a number of different movies, starting with "Deadpool 2."

Josh Brolin in comic book movies

It seems very strange to hear that Fox signed Josh Brolin for the role of Cable because he is set to play Thanos in the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War" and its sequel.

Brolin first appeared as Thanos in the post-credit sequence from "The Avengers" as Loki's accomplice on the alien attack on earth and then again in "Guardians of the Galaxy" as the being ruling over Ronan. The entire "Infinity War" is based on Thanos trying to gather all the Infinity Stones found in the Marvel movies.

Before this, Josh Brolin also appeared in the movie "Sin City 2," based on the comic series written by Frank Miller. Now, with the "Avengers" movies still to come, he has signed on to join the Fox brand of Marvel movies as part of the X-Men universe, and more specifically that of the world of Deadpool.

Josh Brolin as Cable

It will be interesting to see how Fox deals with the character of Cable, although the pieces are in place.

In the comics, Cable is Nathan Summers, the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and a clone of Jean Grey called Madelyne Pryor. If that makes no sense, he was born in the future in the Age Of Apocalypse. Fox has already introduced the Age of Apocalypse in the X-Men movies when they sent Wolverine back in time to save the world. However, instead of saving the world, Wolverine created a different timeline so when Cable came back, he had no idea that the future had already been changed.

Cable ended up joining the X-Men and then formed his own group called X-Force. That is where this four-picture deal comes in as "X-Force" is on the slate for Fox to make in the very near future and will possibly be the second movie that Josh Brolin plays Cable. The first will, of course, be "Deadpool 2" and there is likely to be a Cable solo movie or possibly a Deadpool-Cable team-up movie.

That could be huge for fans of Marvel Comics since Deadpool and Cable are an odd-couple that always entertains, Deadpool being sarcastic and taking nothing seriously while Cable is always deadly serious about everything.
