A lot of viewers who watched this week's episode of NBC's "This Is Us" admitted that they cried when Randall's father died. He was battling stage 4 cancer so the death was expected. Even so, fans had their tissues ready. The tears came not only over the death of William but also because of the grief and pain that Randall displayed over the death of his father that he just met late in life.
Statement of apology
Producers knew the show would be emotional, so a video was posted last year when the show first aired. The video was a pre-recorded apology, and the cast asked forgiveness for making viewers cry.
The apology came in handy and was more appropriate this week than ever before.
Randall, played by Sterling K. Brown, said his final goodbyes to his biological father William Hill, played by Ron Cephas Jones. Brown said he was sorry he made viewers cry.
Mandy Moore who plays Rebecca, Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Jack, Chrissy Metz who plays Kate, and Justin Hartley who plays Kevin also expressed their regrets for making viewers shed tears and use a lot of tissues every time they watch an episode.
More tissues needed
Spoiler alert: You will need tissues again. The show has a lot of flashbacks, and even though viewers know Jack has died, the circumstances surrounding his death were never shown. However, when people find out how he died, they will cry again.
During a recent interview, Hartley said the death of his father will be heartbreaking and sad. He added that fans will never be able to guess how his father dies on the series. He described the episode as being very painful. It will stay with fans for a long time.
Another spoiler alert: William died in this week's episode, but viewers will see him again in several more episodes.
He will return in flashbacks. In fact, he will return as early as in next week's episode.
"This Is Us" airs Tuesdays on NBC at 9 p.m. Make sure you watch the final two episodes that are left this season. Expect to see William again, and expect to find out the sad way Jack died.
