Following on the heels of Marvel and Freeform announcing their leads for “Cloak and Dagger” just this week, Marvel and Hulu have announced their six leads for the ensemble series “Runaways.” Based on the comic books of the same name, the show features six teenagers who discover that their parents are actually members of an organization of super villains and, as the title suggests, run away. The group of six couldn’t be more different from one another if they tried. In fact, the six characters at the center of the story can’t stand one another. They’ll have to unite if they want to escape their parents and survive, though.
Rhenzy Feliz as Alex Wilder
Feliz, who has previously appeared in the series “Casual,” is a relative newcomer to the screen. He’ll star as Alex Wilder, who is a bit of a loner and wears his nerd traits proudly. He spends most of his time lost in video games, but deep down, he wishes he could be with the friends he knew in his childhood.
Soooo excited!!! Check out my new project! 🙏🏽🙏🏽 @Marvel https://t.co/TtqUslXvDU

Lyrica Okano as Nico Minoru
Lyrica Okano most recently appeared in Showtime’s “The Affair,” but her Marvel character has already been teased in a roundabout way in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nico’s mother is actually one of the characters in the “Doctor Strange” film, though she’s never named.
Nico Minoru is a Wiccan learning her craft, and in the comics, she wields a staff that allows her to use a spell only once. That same staff appeared in “Doctor Strange” as an Easter egg.
Virginia Gardner as Karolina Dean
You might have caught Virginia Gardner on the big screen in “Goat” last year, or on the small screen in ABC’s “Secrets and Lies.” She looks like a model, and with good reason.
In the comics, Karolina Dean's parents are actors on a soap opera, though they’re really aliens from another planet who have been hiding in plain sight. It’s not clear how much of her comic book backstory will make it into the show.
Ariela Barer as Gert Yorkes
Ariela Barer has a longer resume than most of her castmates as she’s done a slew of television guest spots, including playing the younger version of Cece on FOX’s “New Girl.” Here, she’s Gert Yorkes, described as a “contemporary riot girl” by Marvel.
A social justice warrior who sports purple hair, she’s often standing up for causes she believes in.
Check out my new project!!! So excited to be a part of this :') https://t.co/rbK0NRucn4

Allegra Acosta as Molly Hernandez
Like many of the cast, Allega Acosta doesn’t have a long list of credits. She’ll be playing the youngest of the “Runaways” as Molly Hernandez, formerly Molly Hayes of the comics. In the comics, Molly develops superhuman strength and she even glows pink when using her powers. She’s also the one member that the group of teens actually goes to rescue when they discover their parents are villains.
Check Out My New Project!! ✅✅so excited 😘💕 @Marvel https://t.co/CGskS8bPRp

Gregg Sulkin as Chase Stein
Probably the best known of the cast, Gregg Sulkin got his big break working on the Disney Channel before moving on to more grown up roles.
Most recently, he’s appeared on MTV’s “Faking It.” Often written off as a simple jock because of his high school heartthrob status, Chase Stein surprises people with his engineering knowledge.
SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THIS! https://t.co/9KFNpZ3KsE

Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb called the chemistry amongst the six young actors “fun” and “wonderful” in a statement, noting “we’re so excited to bring these beloved characters to life.” While these six cast members do make up the core characters, Marvel noted that additional cast members will also be announced at a later date. “Runaways” was previously in development as a movie nearly a decade ago before Marvel decided to move forward on a television series. Like “Cloak and Dagger,” the series will begin filming this month.
If you’re looking for more Marvel in the meantime, “Agents of SHIELD” currently airs on ABC on Tuesdays at 10PM.
