Marvel superhero fans have one more project they can get excited about! Though Freeform announced that “Cloak and Dagger” had been ordered straight to series more than a year ago, the network hadn’t made any public movement on the series. They just made a big leap forward in heading towards filming though as Aubrey Joseph and Olivia Holt have landed the leading roles.

Aubrey Joseph as Cloak

Joseph is a relatively unknown actor. He’s had a few roles on television and in movies over the last few years, but nothing that could be considered a breakout for him just yet.

He’ll appear in the upcoming FOX event series “The Night Of" before taking on the Marvel role.

Joseph will star as Tyrone A.K.A. Cloak. Cloak gets his name as a result of his ability to cloak his enemies in complete darkness. While in Marvel comics that ability is the result of his connection to the Dark Dimension, it’s not clear if he’ll have that same connection for the show. What we do know about his character for the show is that he once lived his life trying to be fearless. When everything he cared about was taken from him, he became more closed off.

Olivia Holt as Dagger

Holt has an extensive television background, and she’s even already a member of the extended Marvel family, having done plenty of work for parent company Disney in the past.

The actress got her big break for the Disney XD series "Kickin It," where she showed off some of her martial arts and gymnastic skills as a member of a dojo. Since the cancellation of her previous Disney series "I Didn’t Do It," Holt has been making forays outside of children’s programming.

She’ll star as Tandy A.K.A. Dagger, a young woman from a spoiled background who experiences tragedy before gaining her new abilities.

Those abilities involve being able to create daggers out of pure light to use against her opponents. Her entire life changes when she meets Tyrone.

Praise for Joseph and Holt

About casting of the two, Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb said in a statement, “Marvel is delighted to have found our Cloak and Dagger. Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles.”

Showrunner Joe Pokaski echoed Loeb’s sentiment, explaining, “The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy.

When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page. We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe.”

Freeform is expected to begin filming “Cloak and Dagger” next month, though the series won’t land on the network until 2018. It will be the first Marvel series to come to Freeform. Marvel is also the production company behind “Agents of SHIELD” and “Inhumans” for ABC, the upcoming “Runaways” series for Hulu, “Legion” on FX, and an additional five series for Netflix.
