Kaitlin Olson will remain one of the busiest actresses in television. She is in her 12th season as Deandra “Sweet Dee” Reynolds in the FXX television series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” On Tuesday, Fox announced it has renewed her series on that network, “The Mick,” for a second season. In “The Mick,” she is Mackenzie “Mickey” Murphy, a loud, energetic and more than slightly irresponsible woman who becomes the guardian of her niece and nephews after her sister and her husband flee the United States to escape prosecution for fraud and tax evasion.

The show debuted with high ratings on Jan. 1. “The Mick” airs on Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT. Fans may watch each episode on Hulu beginning the day after broadcast. The complete series, to date, is also available for viewing on Hulu.

Road to stardom

Before joining the cast of “Sunny” in 2005, Olson drew attention for her supporting roles in several other television series. She had a recurring role as Traylor in “The Drew Carey Show.” She also portrayed Eddie Izzard’s one-armed neighbor, Hartley Underwood, in “The Riches.” On “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” she appeared several times as Cheryl’s sister Becky. Olson was nominated for a Blimp Award at the Kids Choice Awards for voicing the character of Destiny in the motion picture “Finding Dory.” The awards ceremony is scheduled for later in the year.

Sharp-eyed fans can see her in an early bit part in the 2000 movie “Coyote Ugly.”

Rounding out the cast

Several other members of the cast of “The Mick” are becoming fan favorites. Sofia Black-D’Elia, previously known for parts on such programs as “Gossip Girl” and “The Night Of,” portrays Mickey’s niece, Sabrina Pemberton. Carla Jimenez, known for “Desperate Housewives,” “Better off Ted” and “My Name is Earl,” portrays the Pemberton housekeeper, Alba.

Jimenez recently displayed her vocal talents on “The Mick” by singing a portion of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” during a party scene. She has developed a large Twitter following, and she actively chats with her fans on social media.
