The "General Hospital" show typically airs Monday through Friday on ABC for fans of the longtime running soap opera. However, it appears that the daily soap "GH" will be preempted on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, due to an important press conference. It could make for the first of two times this week that a "General Hospital" episode will be preempted, but luckily there is still one day to see the newest episode of the hit show. Here's the latest about why "General Hospital" may not be on today and will be preempted with the episode returning Thursday.
On the latest episode of "General Hospital" (spoiler alert), viewers were finally treated to Nathan and Maxie tying the knot. So this young couple has overcome the odds that were against them. There seemed to be a lot getting in the way of their wedding actually taking place, but the popular couple officially became husband and wife on Tuesday's episode. There are other storylines going on that are adding to the typical intrigue in Port Charles, including the latest with Julian Jerome's dealings, Sonny Corinthos, and Franco as a murder suspect.

Fans will probably need to wait a day before they can catch up on everything because there is a big event that could bump the show on Wednesday.
However, here's what TV Guide listings had to say for the upcoming instalment's synopsis:
"Lulu attempts to bond with Charlotte; Griffin slings accusations; Julian faces his demons."
Press conference scheduled?
On Wednesday, it is expected that President Barack Obama will hold his final press conference as the President of the United States.
Obama is leaving office as his successor, Donald Trump, will take over. The final press conference for Barack Obama is tentatively scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Eastern Time, according to the White House. Due to Obama's anticipated press conference, that means the "General Hospital" episode that was planned for Wednesday will be moved to the next day.
#GH sched update: looking like we'll be pre-empted tomorrow. It's a big episode so we're likely to push to Thurs, more info to follow ...

For those viewers who set their DVRs to record "GH," it might be smart to double check about recording the new episode for Thursday. Some DVRs may pick up on the programming guide and see the Thursday episode as a rerun of what was scheduled for Wednesday.
Soap to be preempted Friday too?
Unfortunately for "General Hospital" fans, Thursday may be the only other new episode this week to enjoy. On Friday, January 20th, Donald Trump will have his official Inauguration as the new President of the United States. Trump is scheduled to have a major event including entertainers on hand as he takes over in the White House.
The Inauguration special coverage will extend from 11 a.m. Eastern Time through 4 p.m. Eastern Time. It means "GH" fans will need to wait until next week to catch up on all the latest happenings in Port Charles including the latest on Julian Jerome, Maxie and Nathan, Sonny, Carly, and all of the other fan favorites!
As mentioned, new "General Hospital" episodes typically air at 2 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC weekdays. So there are new episodes scheduled on Thursday, January 19th, and then again on Monday, January 23, 2017.
