The CW has reportedly commissioned a reboot of the prime time soap opera, “Dynasty.”
What can we expect of the reboot?
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, both of whom are known for their work on the “Gossip Girl” television series, are attached to the upcoming project. Sallie Patrick, who is known for “Revenge,” is set to serve as a show-runner. In addition, the creators of the original show Esther and Richard Shapiro, are also said to be working on the reboot.
According to reports, the new show will boast a more diverse cast than the original. The two main characters of the reboot will be Fallon Carrington, who is the daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and a Hispanic woman named Cristal, who is set to marry into the family and become Fallon's stepmother.
The show will also focus on the rivalry between two families, the Carringtons and the Colbys. The new show will boast a portrayal of the "corrupt world" created by "dynasties," including things ranging from simple betrayal to outright murder.
While unconfirmed, it is expected that the show will act as more of a drama than a traditional soap opera. The original show lasted for nine seasons, garnering 200 episodes, after launching in 1981, often being viewed as a staple of the decade's television.
The CW has grown fond of adapting older properties into new shows
The CW network seems to show an interest in rebooting old properties into their current television line-up. Another recent show they’ve developed, “Riverdale,” features an update of the "Archie" comic book characters, which will even include characters from related properties, such as “Josie and the Pussycats,” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” Other shows on their network based on comics include “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Supergirl.”
Another show the network has recently commissioned is the upcoming "Searchers," which appears to focus on a brother and sister team who search for the supernatural. This has even lead to comparisons to the series, “Supernatural,” a show that is already currently airing on the CW network.
