The L.A. Galaxy have failed two games in a row at home against two elite teams in the MLS. The Galaxy, who are still not in a bad position in the Western Conference, still have some major polishing to do. Losing two at home is huge, and it shows that some fixing needs to be done.

The two teams that took down the Galaxy in the last two home games were the Sporting Kansas City and Atlanta FC. SKC being the leader of the Western Conference, they defeated the Angeleno team 2-0 on April 8. Atlanta won last weekend at the StubHub Center with the same score.

The Galaxy are showing some promises as a major scoring machine, but, against elite teams, the Galaxy’s offensive power seems to dwindle away. This is a major concern, especially when the team is losing at home.

Sitting in a good place

The L.A. Galaxy are actually not sitting in a bad place when looking at the Western Conference. As of now, they stand in fourth place with three victories, one tie, and three losses. Two of the three losses were sustained at home. Ouch!

Real Salt Lake and the Vancouver Whitecaps are tied with the Galaxy with ten points, but the goal differential puts the Angeleno team on top of the three teams. Still, the Galaxy need to up their game and start to be able to defend their home games better.

The two teams that won at StubHub

Sporting Kansas City has been a powerhouse for some years in the MLS, and they remain one so far this season. After eight games, Kansas City leads the West with 17 points with five wins, two draws, and one loss. Their win over the Galaxy in Los Angeles was huge, and it proved that they are a team to reckon with.

As for Atlanta FC, it is only their second year in the MLS, but the team has been a power to deal with since their inception. Last season, they made playoffs as an expansion team. This year, they hold true as an elite team in the East.

Atlanta’s record in the Eastern Conference is five wins, one draw, and one loss after seven games.

They hold second place in the East with 16 points, right behind New York City FC, who has 17 points.

What to do

Obviously, the defense of the Galaxy is not quite holding out very well against top tier teams. On top of it all, they are not even scoring against these elite teams so far in the league. Consistency must be accomplished in the back and the rest shall follow.

Yes, the Galaxy have played with major players out with injuries or nurturing injuries. This could be a factor, but the outcome has been accomplished with the Galaxy on the bad end of the stick. So, now that most of their players are back are ready to go, maybe things will change.

The next game for the L.A. Galaxy is against the New York Red Bulls in New York. The New York team is also looking to bounce back after a home loss last weekend. This match will be an interesting one since both teams will be fighting to avoid two losses in a row.
