Ah, "Kingdom Hearts," how I love you. I have loved you for 15 years. Even though you have never really been there for me when I needed you, you were never too far from my heart. I feel like that statement is shared by myself and many other fans. With this year being the 15th anniversary of the franchise, fans are itching for any amount of new information about the upcoming release. Thankfully, in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, new information was shared by director Tetsuya Nomura concerning plans to celebrate the anniversary, and beyond.
Wonderful plans for the 15th anniversary
Releasing "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue" in January, releasing "Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix" in March, and also preparing for the start of "Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ" Season 2 are just some of the ways Square Enix is celebrating the anniversary, according to the interview.
This is all fine and dandy when it comes to what Square Enix is doing to commemorate the game's anniversary, but where’s the real information regarding "Kingdom Hearts III"? Nomura went on during the interview to give a little insight, unfortunately it may not have been exactly what fans were expecting.
“While I can’t make a sweeping statement because the development process is different from what we’ve done so far, there are still worlds untouched.
Production is progressing on unannounced worlds, in a state that we cannot show them off. In terms of the state of development, there is still some way to go,” Tetsuya further pointed out in the interview with Weekly Famitsu.
Only giving a very vague comment on the games’ actual release, I did glean the possibility of unannounced worlds coming soon.
What those worlds are going to be is anyone’s guess, but there are definitely some theories. With Disney and Square Enix working on the title, many know that we will have Final Fantasy-esque worlds showing up, but I for one am excited about what Disney is going to be bringing to the table this time around.
There could be so much more in store
Since the acquisitions of the Marvel and Star Wars universes, and subsequent announcement of "Kingdom Hearts III," many fans have speculated that the main character Sora will be venturing to a galaxy far far away, or to universe with the likes of Spider-Man, Captain America, or Hulk, to name a few. We may even get both.
Only time will tell, and since it appears we will not be joining Sora and his compatriots any time soon, all we can do is wait patiently. However, will we have to wait longer than normal to hear more, or, with it being the 15th anniversary this year, could we be treated to a wonderful helping of "Kingdom Hearts III" news? One can only hope.
