After it was announced that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl would not spend anytime in jail after wandering off his military base in Afghanistan nearly a decade ago, reactions came quick. For Donald Trump, the president wasn't pleased with the military's decision.

Trump on Bergdahl

The incident surrounding Bowe Bergdahl has become one of the most debated internal military issues in recent memory. In June 2009, Bergdahl deserted his military post while serving in Afghanistan. It was at this time when he was captured by the Taliban, and held hostage until May 2014.

Bergdahl was eventually released after an exchange was made by the United States government that allowed five members of the Taliban to leave Guantanamo Bay and return back to Afghanistan. After a lengthy investigation, the New York Daily News reported on November 3 that the military had decided to fate of the wandered solider. Despite Bergdahl facing up to life in prison after pleading guilty to desertion, military Judge Col. Jeffrey Nance decided against the maximum sentence. In return. Bergdahl was dishonorably discharged from the military, with his rank reduced down to private. In addition, Bergdahl has lost all future benefits typically received by veterans and members of the military, including health insurance.

On top of that, Bergdahl was hit with a $10,000 fine that will be payable over the next 10 months. In response, the vocal Donald Trump decided to sound off and criticize the military's decision.

Taking to his Twitter account on Friday afternoon, Donald Trump lashed out at the decision to spare Bowe Bergdahl the maximum penalty of time behind bars.

"The decision on Sergeant Bergdahl is a complete and total disgrace to our Country and to our Military," Trump tweeted out. The former host of "The Apprentice" has been outspoken about the issue since he announced his campaign for president, mocking and ripping Bergdahl as a traitor and a disgrace in the process.

"Your decisions on a lot of things are a complete and total disgrace to our Country so then there is that," an additional tweet stated.

"Yeah. Too lenient. Glad 'Dishonorable Discharge' is not an option for Bob Mueller. He’s going for jail time. Enjoy the time you have left," one Twitter user added.

"So, do you feel that the justice system should always be very hard on the defendant?

#Mueller, keep this in mind," yet another tweet noted. "He got due process, received a fair trial and was adjudged. Like our system demands. Just because YOU don't like the result is irrelevant," another Twitter user pointed out. The negative reaction to Donald Trump continued to pour in as the divide between the political left and right moved forward.
