By 10:25 PM the police had given orders to lock down all the rooms in the hotel. When officers broke down the shooter's door with explosives at 11:21 p.m., they found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In the room were 23 different kinds weapons, such as AR-15-style, AK-47-style and .308 caliber rifles and one handgun. ATF special agent Jill Schneider confirmed that 12 weapons had been modified to be fully automatic. Two of the rifles were mounted on tripods. The weapons had been carried into the hotel room in 13 different suitcases.

Another 19 guns were found at the shooter's house.

A father spoke out on the news that his 13-month-old baby was alone in a room three doors from the shooter. The nanny was across the hall in a separate room. The police had to break down the door to get the baby since all the rooms were locked down.

Police are investigating the possibility that the shooter may have planned to attack the "Life Is Beautiful" three-day festival held in Las Vegas from September 22 to September 24 where Chance The Rapper was performing. The room the shooter wanted at a nearby hotel was booked at the time.
