On September 20, Puerto Rico was hit by Hurricane Maria and has been in an emergency state ever since. Despite the fact that Puerto Rico is United States territory and the citizens there are American, President Donald Trump has not done much in lieu of helping these people. Against flood waters and a death toll, the mayor of San Juan is taking this situation into her own hands.

Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz

Mayor Cruz has been working hard to get the people of Puerto Rico everything that they need. She has been out working with citizens, doing the best that she can in her position.

There are even photographs of her out in the flood waters doing everything she can to help her own people.

Cruz has been fighting hard to get President Trump's attention in this emergency situation. They are running out of supplies and they need help from the mainland of the United States, something that the President has been very good at ignoring so far. In fact, President Trump tweeted a series of tweets talking about the horrible financial situation of Puerto Rico. Is the Commander in Chief really going to let American citizens die because of their financial situation?

The lack of support for Puerto Rico has gotten so bad that many private businesses, as well as celebrities, have started to collect their own supplies to send to help their fellow American citizens.

What exactly is President Trump doing?

We've heard that while Puerto Rico citizens are suffering and dying, President Trump is busy causing issues for the NFL.

He's also decided to take a golf trip instead of doing his job as President of the United States. Although FEMA is finally being sent in, the citizens of Puerto Rico are having many issues filing for assistance. It's been said that the people have to register for help online, which isn't very useful when your entire land is underwater and very largely without power.

It would appear that the lack of help is largely part of trying to punish Mayor Cruz. In a string of tweets, President Trump stated, "The mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump. Such poor leadership ability by the mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help. They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort."

It's a state of emergency, and the President is telling them that they need to just pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
