A Mother who is pregnant with her sixth child was diagnosed with an aggressive tumor that has affected her brain and spinal cord, but she refused to get any form of treatment in an attempt to save her baby’s life. The mother is now in a vegetative state and is staying in a Michigan hospital.

The pregnant mother, Carrie DeKlyen, was diagnosed with a disease called glioblastoma. She enrolled in a clinical trial at the University of Michigan after she was diagnosed in April, but doctors found out she was pregnant. They advised her to terminate her pregnancy in order to get the treatment, but she chose to let her baby have a chance at life instead, Life Site reported.

Husband speaks out

Carrie's husband of 17 years, Nick DeKlyen, said in a statement that she decided she will keep the baby. Nick said, according to Pop Culture, that his wife is going to miss them, but she knows “this life is so quick and we’ll see each other again in Heaven.” Nick said that he supports Carrie’s decision.

Carrie needs to live for almost two more months to keep the baby alive

Acording to Pop Culture, Carrie has to live for seven more weeks in order to keep the baby alive. She is in the ICU and is now 21 weeks pregnant. Nick said they are racing against time now but hopes that everything will turn out well.

Thirty-seven-year-old Carrie and 39-year-old Nick have five other kids together.

They are 18-year-old Elijah, 16-year-old Isaiah, 11-year-lld Nevaeh, four-year-old Leila, and one-year-old Jez. Their unborn baby is a girl and will be named Life.

How Carrie was diagnosed

Carrie was diagnosed with glioblastoma after she had severe headaches for days. Nick said that he and his stay-at-home wife did not think too much about her headaches because they might have been due to exhaustion since she was a mother-of-five during that time.

However, one day she woke up vomiting and that was when they knew there was something wrong.

Initially, they were told that she might live for five more years, but the possibility decreased after a few months. There were nights that she woke up in the middle of the night and screamed about how much her head hurt. She already underwent four major brain surgeries and suffered a stroke.

After her stroke two weeks ago, she no longer regained her consciousness.

The family also started a GoFundMe page, and it has made more than $20,000. This would help with their medical and family expenses since Nick quit his job to take care of the kids and his wife, Daily Mail shared.
