Forbes has named actor Mark Wahlberg the highest paid actor in the world for 2017. Wahlberg reported earnings between June 2016 and June 2017 was a whopping $68 million. To come to the top, Wahlberg had to beat Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who was proclaimed as the highest earning actor of 2016. Wahlberg’s earning came majorly from his upcoming motion picture "Daddy's Home 2" and action packed film “Transformers: The Last Knight.” Apart from the movies, the earning amount also consisted of AT&T endorsement deal and the A&E reality series of his family named “Wahlburgers.”

Dwayne Johnson gets the second position

Dwayne Johnson came second with $65 million.

Johnson’s earnings majorly came from his movies “Baywatch” and “Jumanji. In 2016, Johnson dethroned three-time winner Robert Downey Jr. with a total earning of $64.5-million. Robert Downey Jr., on the other hand, has slipped to the sixth position with a yearly earning of $48 million. However, his co-stars from the Avenger’s motion picture franchise - which includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Pratt - were placed in the list’s top 20.

The third position went to Vin Diesel who has starred and produced the Fast And Furious franchise. Apart from his role in “Fast and Furious 8,” he lent his voice to baby Groot in the “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,". With earnings of $54.5 million, Forbes rated him number three. The fourth position was bagged by Adam Sandler although his profitable Netflix production was criticized by most.

His total earnings came to an estimated $50.4 million, which made it possible for him to stay put in top five.

Forbes list shows the wage gap between female and male actors

Although Emma Stone was crowned the highest earning actress in the world, the earning amount gap between her and Wahlberg is staggering, showing the huge wage gap which still exists in the industry. While Emma Stone earned a total of $26 million, Wahlberg’s earnings were an estimated $68 million. Furthermore, it was also seen that the collective earnings of all the top ten actors of the world were triple the amount of the top ten earning actresses globally.

While the top ten actors all over the world earned a total of $488.5 million, the ladies lagged behind at a mere $172.5 million. While only the La La Land actor Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence of Hunger Games fame, and Jennifer Aniston managed to cross the $20 million a year mark, 16 male actors surpassed the same in Forbes list.
