Twitter is a well-known social media platform. It was created by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams in March 2006. Users are limited to 140 characters per tweet. Users can follow other people including their favorite celebrities. Twitter has become a worldwide tool for public interaction and is used heavily by news outlets. However, there are certain behaviors which will merit the deletion of an account. It appears as if President Donald Trump has breached the terms of the site.
Twitter's harassment policies
The Twitter website has a whole section dedicated to abusive behavior on the platform.
There is a list of behaviors that will get users accounts removed. Among these are violent threats, harassment and hateful conduct. The site briefly explains to users why these rules exist. They want everyone to feel comfortable on the platform and for everyone to have their own voice. If a user is making others afraid to voice their opinions it is grounds to remove the account.
Furthermore, each subcategory has a description underneath. These descriptions outline directly what they mean when they refer to threats, harassment and hateful conduct. These include to make threats of violence or to in any way promote violence. One is not allowed to promote racism, sexism, homophobia and more on the grounds of other uses race, religion, sexual orientation or gender.
Trump has been violating the terms and conditions of the website
Trump has been abusing the terms of his Twitter account. As recently as Sunday, June 2, The President of the United States publicly showed violent intentions towards a journalist. Trump attacked the journalist through his Twitter account. As well as this, the President has shown hostility towards Brzezinski.
His comments about her included that she was stupid and that she was suffering from a badly performed facelift.
Trump is aware of the controversy surrounding his account. He has directly addressed the issue stating that he is a modern day President who has the right to use Twitter as he sees fit. As President Trump has such a huge following of 33.1 Twitter users, his comments degrading other people can be categorized as harassment.
Twitter has released a statement saying that they are investigating the Presidents use of the social media tool. There is a possibility that President Trump's account could be removed if he is found to have breached his account conditions.
