Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya has raised a lot of stink for reasons that are now very well known but according to a report by NBC News, the meeting had also been attended by a lobbyist, who had also been a Russian counterintelligence officer in a past life. The President's son's actions have raised serious concerns about a criminal conspiracy verging on treason and this latest development will add further fuel to this raging fire.

Another bombshell

Trump Jr.'s meeting with the Russian lawyer is already a matter of grave concern in the country due to the way in which he seemed to collude with Russians to pick up dirt about Hillary Clinton.

However, the presence of an ex Soviet counterintelligence officer at the meeting makes it look even worse and hence NBC's exclusive is, without a doubt, a bombshell for the Trump administration.

The ex Soviet counterintelligence officer works as a lobbyist nowadays but according to the NBC report, the US security agencies suspect that he has close ties with the spy agencies in Russia. Although the lobbyist has denied these assertions, he cannot deny that he had been in the Societ army. After quitting the Soviet army, he came to the United States and is now a holder of dual citizenship. According to the Associated Press, the said lobbyist is Rinat Akhmetshin and he has admitted that she had been in attendance at the meeting with Donald Trump Jr.

Grave implications

The latest revelations raise grave concerns about the Trump campaign in the lead up the US Presidential elections last year. Additionally, the fact that Russian interference in the whole process is now being investigated, Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting will certainly be a matter of interest for the panels in charge of the investigation.

After all, the presence of a lobbyist, with alleged deep ties to the Russian establishment, at the meeting does not paint a pretty picture for the President's second eldest son.

Trump Jr.'s attorney Alan Futerfas responded to the revelations and although he did not identify Rinat Akhmetshin, he did say that a translator and a friend of the Russian lawyer was present at the now infamous meeting.

Talking about this "friend,", Futerfas said: "He is a U.S. citizen. He told me specifically he was not working for the Russian government, and in fact laughed when I asked him that question.” He went on to say that the President's son was not aware of the backgrounds of these people at the time.
