NYPD officer’s wife gives birth to his daughter 3 years after his death

Almost three years after her husband, Wenjian Liu, 32, was shot and killed in action, his wife, Pei Xia Chen, has given birth to his baby girl.

NYPD cop and partner killed in action

NYPD officer Wenjian Liu, 32, and his partner, 40-year-old officer Rafael Ramos, were both fatally shot on December 20, 2014, while seated in their patrol car. As Liu lay dying in the hospital in Brooklyn, doctors asked Chen if she would like them to preserve his semen. Chen told the New York Post that she naturally said yes and on Tuesday, almost three years after his death, she has given birth to his baby daughter, Angelina.

Mother dreamed her husband handed her a baby girl

Chen told The New York Daily News that they had been married for only three months when he was killed. Maria Dziergowski, a fellow police widow told the Daily News the night after she received the in vitro fertilization, Chen had dreamed her husband had handed her a baby girl. On becoming pregnant, she had told her friend the newborn was going to be a girl and her friend told her she couldn’t know that, as they had not checked the sonograms yet, but it turned out she was right.

Grandparents are thrilled

Chen didn’t tell her in laws of her attempts to get pregnant, as she didn’t want them worrying about her and only told them when she knew the in vitro fertilization had been successful.

Xiu Yan Li, Liu’s mother said she was so happy when baby Angelina was born on Tuesday and that she was “like an angel,” just as her son is an angel. She told the Daily News her granddaughter resembles both her parents. According to Liu, the eyes and forehead look like her son, while the bottom of the baby’s face resembles her mother, adding that she can definitely see her son in the newly born baby girl.

The New York Post quotes fellow widow Dziergowski as saying the newborn is adorable and that she is smiling and laughing. As she sat at Chen’s bedside in the hospital she said Angelina has plenty of black hair. The hospital was reportedly full of female police officers and Chen’s friends on Tuesday, there to congratulate her.

They had thrown a baby shower for her two weeks prior to the birth.

Two NYPD cops killed in 2014

Liu and Ramos were fatally shot by Ismaaiyl Brinsley on December 20, 2014 after he walked up to their patrol car. According to the Post, he had posted on Instagram hours before the shooting to say he was “putting wings on pigs today.” Brinsley later committed suicide.
