Virtually every news outlet devoted hours of discussion this weekend to whether or not President Trump's tweeting habits are beneath the dignity of an elected official; yet, lost in the media madness, was a rant by California Congresswoman Maxine Waters on Saturday in which she vowed to take HUD secretary Ben Carson's "ass apart."

While speaking at the 2017 Essence Festival in New Orleans on Saturday, the California congresswoman railed against Carson, stating that he doesn't know the first thing about the mission of HUD and declaring that Carson "doesn't care" about those living in public housing.

Waters then made a controversial promise that was all but overlooked by the mainstream media, telling the audience: "If he [Ben Carson] thinks when he comes before my committee where I am the ranking member that I am going to give him a pass… I am going to take his ass apart.”

Waters also has harsh words for Sessions and DeVos

Waters also had strong words for Attorney General Jeff Sessions, labeling the former senator as a racist. “Jeff Sessions is a racist, he’s a throwback," ranted Waters, adding that Sessions "really liked" the Ku Klux Klan until he found out that they smoked pot.

Sessions, whose nomination for a federal judgeship was rejected during the Reagan administration amid allegations of racial insensitivity, once allegedly joked that he thought "those guys [KKK] were okay until I learned they smoked pot".

According to an article by The Washington Post from December of 2016, two justice department attorneys who overheard the remark claimed that Sessions was merely making a joke.

As for Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, Waters falsely declared that she has "never seen the inside of a classroom."

DeVos is a graduate of Calvin College in Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Prior to that, she graduated from Holland Christian High School, a prestigious private academy in her hometown of Holland, Michigan. The high school, which is consistently ranked as one of the 20 Best Christian High Schools in the country, sees 90 percent of its students go on to college.

Waters leads crowd in impeachment chant

According to Essence, Waters' speech lasted approximately fifteen minutes, of which several minutes were devoted to bashing President Trump. “I don’t honor him, I don’t respect him and I am not going to tolerate him,” stated Waters from the Essence Empowerment stage. She then led the crowd in an "Impeach 45" chant. Essence reported that the audience "ate it all the way up".

The 2017 Essence Festival, sponsored by Coca-Cola, also featured appearances by Diana Ross, John Legend, Chance the Rapper, Mary J. Blige and India Arie. The festival billed as "four days of music, empowerment, community, and entertainment" was held in New Orleans at the Superdome and the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center from June 29 to July 2.
