Just a few days before former FBI Director James Comey had a hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Rep. Al Green (D-TX) called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump for attempting to obstruct justice in the federal investigation being conducted on him. As Blasting News reported, Rep. Sherman unveiled an article of impeachment following Al Green's lead for which he intends to force a vote.
Green made his statement during a press briefing in which Rep. Sherman was standing next to him. Sherman showed some restraint in the process saying that if they have additional evidence, they would file more articles for impeachment.
Al Green and Sherman lead charge for impeachment
Al Green has been more outspoken about impeaching the President than his Democratic colleagues to the point where recent announcements have caused leading Democrats to push back. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said that the effort was premature and that it might even undermine the current investigation that is now in the hands of special prosecutor Robert Mueller.
Schiff is a ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, one of the congressional bodies that are investigating the Trump campaign and possible collusion with Russian officials.
In his statement, Schiff brought up the hearing that would take place with Department of Justice Attorney General before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. It's been reported that the Russia investigation might include Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Al Green's call for impeachment started on the House floor in May which triggered death threats by Trump supporters who called him the n-word and made other racist threats saying that he should be lynched. Green is a member of the Black Caucus.
Trump supporters threaten retaliation
As the call for impeachment seems to grow among Democrats, some Trump supporters have threatened to take up arms and kill Liberals should the President be impeached. One example of this was with a Twitter account that goes by the name of @BudaVision32 which was targeted by others on social media and reported to Twitter support who permanently suspended the account. As for Green's response to the death threats, he countered the threats by publishing recordings on YouTube and on Facebook where he also posted the entirety of his town hall. Here is one of those explicit threatening phone calls as posted on Green's YouTube channel.
During this town hall, he revealed the threats and played the recordings to attendees.
It was reported that one of the messages invoked a debunked conspiracy theory about a Democratic National Committee staffer who was shot and killed last year. Despite the announcements, even Democrats who have supported impeachment such as Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) have refused to comment. Others such as Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) feel that there are "no legs for an impeachment process to stand on and also feels the efforts are premature.
