On Wednesday afternoon Linda Sarsour, Tamika Mallory and a slew of other professional protesters were arrested at the International Women's Day demonstration in New York City. Multiple sources report that Sarsour was arrested for disorderly conduct after receiving multiple warnings from police to cease and desist.

A tweet from the official Women's March Twitter account, posted at 1:35 p.m., indicates that Sarsour and other protesters blocked traffic in Columbus Circle, outside of the Trump International Hotel.

The Daily Caller reports that police gave the protesters several warnings to disperse, but Sarsour and a handful of other demonstrators refused. According to one eyewitness, one of the protesters was taken to the ground by law enforcement and about a dozen were arrested. NYPD has not yet confirmed the total number of arrests.

Eleven march organizers arrested

According to Mic.com, the other activists who were arrested include Tamika Mallory, Bob Bland and Carmen Perez. A Women's March spokesperson acknowledged that out of the dozen or so who were arrested, eleven were march organizers.

Those who were arrested have a track record of 'professional' protesting with several different groups.

In December of 2015, Mallory and Sarsour were arrested during the protests that erupted in New York after policeman Daniel Pantaleo was acquitted in the death of Eric Garner. In January, Mallory told The American Prospect that she’s “been marching as long as I can remember.” In 2015, Mallory wrote an op-ed for The Huffington Post in which she states that her parents were founding members of Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. "I grew up attending rallies and protests," wrote Mallory.

Sarsour, who serves as executive director of the Arab American Association of New York, is also the co-founder of Muslims for Ferguson. Bob Bland is the New York clothing designer behind the Hillary Clinton-inspired "Nasty Woman" t-shirts that became popular during the 2016 presidential election.

Funded by leading liberal organizations

Sarsour, Mallory, Perez, and Bland are the four national co-chairs of the Women's March, which has received sponsorship and financial backing from a veritable who's-who list of left-wing organizations including NARAL Pro-Choice America, the ACLU, the American Federation of Teachers, the Human Rights Campaign, Planned Parenthood and MoveOn.org.
