In a highly-publicized exclusive report, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow revealed two pages of President Donald Trump’s 2005 federal income tax form on her program, "The Rachel Maddow Show." The two pages of the Trump tax form were mailed to David Cay Johnston, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist. He discussed the matter on the show.

This is the second time that a Trump tax form was deliberately leaked to the press by some unknown person or persons. This form revealed that Trump earned $150 million in income and paid $38 million in taxes.

David Kay Johnston accuses Trump of deliberate 'leak' of tax documents

The question remains how did David Cay Johnson receive these forms and who was behind the “leak.” According to Mr. Johnson on “The Rachel Maddow Show”, the documents were leaked by none other than Donald Trump or at his direction. The form was marked with a "Client Copy" stamp, fueling the speculation of the President's hand in its release. In fact, the White House responded to the “leak” prior to the airing of the tax returns in a statement and even seem to go a step further in acknowledging that a deduction taken of more than $103 million was for “depreciation.”

It was last fall that the New York Times “leaked” a tax form from 1996 that indicated Trump had a massive tax loss of $916 million.

The speculation at the time is that that "leak" was from the inside with the blessing of Trump. Trump often changes the direction of the news by distractions and the theory goes that he may be trying to take the heat off of the Congressional investigations into possible Russian ties with the Trump campaigns.

Others speculate about 'leak' source'

New York Times reporter Noam Scheiber also speculated the source of the documents, strongly suspecting a "leak" from Trump. He made a convincing argument as to why only two pages were leaked, the parts that are positive for Trump.

Also fueling the Trump source of the "leak" is the tweet sent out by Donald Trump Jr., who used the forms to show his dad in a positive light.

Which is why only the first two pages were "leaked" and the others omitted from release which could fuel Russian ties to the Trump campaign speculation.
