Democrats are calling out any scenes of foul play in the White House. One of those scenes involves the House Intelligence Committee. Its chairman, Devin Nunes, is being asked by lawmakers to resign from his position. His ties with U.S. President Donald Trump have been deemed too close for him to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Democrats believe that Nunes chooses to focus on working close together with Trump instead of searching for proof that Russian officials were involved in causing Hillary Clinton to lose the election.

Democrats speak on chairman

Devin Nunes is being challenged by Democrats for more reasons than just his position within the Trump administration. There is also a focus on his tendencies to reveal reports at the White House that are supposed to remain confidential.

House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, gave a statement on March 27th saying, “The Chair of the House Intelligence has a serious responsibility to the Congress and to the country. Chairman Nunes’ discredited behavior has tarnished that office. House Speaker Paul Ryan must insist that Chairman Nunes at least recuse himself from the Trump-Russia investigation immediately.”

House Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) will be leading the investigation on Russia with Nunes.

He even requested for the chairman to step down. It appears to him that the White House influenced Nunes to believe that the Obama administration wrongfully exposed members of the Trump administration. He said, “The questions are profound enough that I think we need to move past it, and ideally that would mean the chairman ought to recuse himself.”

The American people have joined in with politicians demanding that Devin Nunes save himself.

They want fair and thorough investigation. If there was Russian interference with the election, then U.S. citizens are entitled to correct information as to what happened.

Nunes’ thoughts

The HIC chairman gave clear indication on Monday that he refuses to step down from the Russian investigation with his panel. He acknowledged that he was at the White House last week to obtain more evidence about the incidents that occurred there.

He mentioned that he often gathers information this way because Congress doesn’t have access to pertinent information like the Executive Branch does.

Nunes says that reports show the Trump administration being victims of foreign surveillance. His actions are making people wonder why he went to a White House briefing to get the information and why he released the information he obtained in the first place. As the House Intelligence Committee’s chairman, people think his participation in the investigation is only to make sure that there is a biased opinion. Either way, Devin Nunes will not step down.
