According to the New York Times, NBC has wooed and won over Fox News’ Megyn Kelly. Apparently, negotiations were lucrative enough to lure Kelly away from her 12-year career at Fox. The multi-year agreement was confirmed in a statement released today by the NBC Universal News Group chairman, Andrew Lack. The statement notes that Megyn is an exceptional news anchor and journalist who has demonstrated skill and poise.

The 46-year-old native New Yorker will be wearing three hats, so to speak, in her new position. She will host a Monday through Friday daytime news program, anchor an in-depth Sunday nightly news show, and become a regular participant in NBC’s political programming and coverage.

Megyn Kelly hosted “The Kelly File” on Fox News since 2013, which skyrocketed in ratings over the years. Viewers unfamiliar with Fox News certainly came to know Kelly during the presidential election race. The public feud between Kelly and then-Republican candidate Donald Trump escalated during an August 2015 debate after she served as a moderator.

Trump’s constant Twitter attacks kept the mother of three in the media spotlight, making hers a household name.

Breaking up is not always hard to do

Since the scandal-riddled exit of executive Roger Ailes, the folks at Fox News became news makers themselves. Despite emerging tales of behind-the-scene sexual harassment, and even through her own personal ordeals with Donald Trump and co-workers, Kelly remained steadfast and professional. Interestingly, there has also been a steady stream of rumors and rumblings of other defections taking place. Gretchen Carlson is now gone and so is veteran news anchor Greta Van Susteren, who has also hinted at returning to television.

News for the new year

Reportedly, Megyn Kelly will make her debut on NBC later this year.

NBC is expected to make the appropriate announcement with more details included, sometime in the near future. Will 2017 see more Fox News anchors leaving, and if so, will viewers witness a difference in their style of reporting?
