The annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest will once again take place on Tuesday afternoon from Nathan's Famous in Coney Island in New York. If you haven’t witnessed the Nathan’s Famous Coney contest before, where have you been?

While it isn’t for the faint of heart, that is if watching grown men and women shoveling down Hot Dogs at an incredible rate isn’t for you, it does have a certain mystique all its own. Not only do tons of folks head to Nathan's Coney Island to witness it in person, but also tens of thousands of fans tune in via television or live stream just to catch all of the action.

Joey Chestnut vs. the World

Joey Chestnut is an eating machine. The 33 year-old California native is one of the best competitive eaters on the planet and will look to build on his legacy this year. Chestnut is the defending men’s champion in the Nathan’s Coney Island Hot Dog Eating contest and his performance last year was one for the record books.

Chestnut ate an incredible 70 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes last year, which is the most ever in the history of the over four decade competition. Chestnut defeated Matt "The Megatoad" Stonie in 2016 to reclaim his title. In the end, Chestnut took down Stonie by 17 hot dogs. Stonie, who is also a California native, is expected to give Chestnut a run for his money once again this year, but it won’t be easy.

Chestnut won his first Nathan’s contest back in 2007, and every year since until Stonie defeated him in 2015. Now that Chestnut reclaimed the crown in 2016 he is ready to make it back-to-back wins once again and claim his 10th overall win at Coney Island.

Just because Chestnut is an eating machine, let’s not forget about the females.

Miki Sudo is the defending women's champion and she can sure put away the dogs! Last year she ate an incredible 38-1/2 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to claim the championship title for the third straight year. She is the heavy favorite to win again this year on the women’s side.
