It has been confirmed that several Netflix films will premiere in competition at 70th Edition of Cannes Film Festival. Netflix is celebrating its first Cannes selection of original movies “The Beguiled,” “Okja,” “The Meyerowitz Stories,” “You Were Never Really Here” and “Good Time,” making a milestone for its fast-growing slate of exclusive and diverse content. Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, says that it is an honor to be in competition at Cannes.

'The Beguiled'

Netflix’s thriller “The Beguiled" is one of the most anticipated titles.

It is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas P. Cullinan. The cast includes Clint Eastwood, Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, and Kirsten Dunst. Sofia Coppola writes the story. The movie is scheduled to be released on June 23, 2017. Focus Features acquires the distribution rights. Elle Fanning, Angourie Rice, Oona Laurence, Emma Howard, and Addison Riecke will play the supporting roles. Coppola is serving as a producer on the film alongside Roman Coppola and Youree Henley.

'Okja' and 'The Meyerowitz Stories.'

Netflix will premiere “Okja” and “The Meyerowitz Stories” at Cannes and has high expectations. The cast of "Okja" includes Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton. It is the story of a teenage girl who fights against a giant animal to save her family.

Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman play the lead roles in "The Meyerowitz Stories," a comedy about a young man who takes the responsibility of his aging father. Netflix says that both titles will be launched this July.

'You Were Never Really Here'

This movie also makes the cut for the festival. Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams play the lead roles.

The story of “You Were Never Really Here” is about two deaf kids who are forced to spend their days in a dark room. It is the latest project of Lynne Ramsay, who previously directed "We Need To Talk About Kevin." The film will compete for the Palme d'Or in the main competition section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

'Good Time' and 'Happy End.'

"Twilight" beauty Robert Pattinson is playing the main character in this crime thriller. “Good Time” is directed by Benny and Josh Safdie. This American movie has Barkhad Abdi and Jennifer Jason Leigh in the supporting roles. Ronald Bronstein is on board to pen the script. Elara Pictures' Sebastian Bear-McClard will distribute the movie worldwide.

Happy End” is an upcoming film written and directed by Michael Haneke. Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, says that the film has been selected to compete at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. It is a story of a couple living in Calais with their children. The cast includes Isabelle Huppert, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Mathieu Kassovitz, and Loubna Abidar.

Sony Pictures Classics acquires rights to the film.
